Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and increase separation across the United States.
During a discussion, the Oscar winner reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, election after election, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
The actress has spoken candidly about backing right and leftwing candidates throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and revealing she realized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will make every effort to protect reproductive rights.”
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact public figures have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.
“This upcoming term feels different,” noted Lawrence regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
The actor is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s project in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her emotional state in a remote area. At a interview session for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children today. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Even though the director has rejected the plot being seen as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, she said that she connected with parts of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after production wrapped.
“It was fear for my son,” she said, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I continued it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
