A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
