Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
