Christantus Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are adapting very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.

A further three points in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight passage to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Moment

This match provided a platform for several Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.

A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season were no match even for a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.

Dominance Asserted from the Start

Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.

Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Contest

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.

A solitary concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
